Two weeks structured

Simultaneous interpretation from English into Spanish and/or Catalan will be provided at the morning sessions by students of the conference interpreting strand of the FTI Master's in Translation and Intercultural Studies. This service is coordinated by Dr. Marta Arumí, lecturer in Interpreting of the Department of Translation and Interpreting.

Day 1

In the morning we shall have a presentation of the two-week course followed by a round table with most of the key speakers. The round table will deal with general issues regarding research in Translation Studies, new trends and methodologies, etc.

Days 2 and 3

Each morning there will be two sessions where a general overview of different areas of research within Translation Studies will be presented. The format of the presentation will seek active participation from students.

Afternoons of days 1, 2 and 3 will consist of presentations of fundamental issues regarding drafting, presenting and publishing academic work.

Day 4

Day 4 will be devoted to a hands-on workshop in which participants will have the opportunity to work with tools in order to gather data for Translation Research.

Day 5

Day 5 will consist of a hands-on workshop focusing on data gathering technology that will help in cognitive analysis: eye-tracking.

Days 4 and 5 will also coincide with the 2nd Advanced Research Seminar in Audio Description, which all participants are invited to attend.

Week 2

The mornings of Week 2 will have a common structure like that of days 2 and 3 of week 1.

Afternoons in week 2 will be devoted to presentations by students of their research topics. Taking advantage of the tools and methodologies covered in the workshops of the previous week, students will be encouraged to present abstracts, ideas for research papers, and an outline of their research in progress.

Students will be able to submit their work in advance to one of the key speakers for personal feedback and assessment. During the two-week course, students will benefit from a tutorial with one of the keynote speakers in order to discuss their work on an individual basis.

On Friday 19th the 2nd International Seminar on Real-time Intralingual Subtitling will take place. Students will also be welcome to attend this event .
